Free Books - Free Internet

Just a quick hint - if you hadn't had the idea already:

Get a library card!

Maybe a bit old school, but worth it nevertheless. You need to have a picture ID and an official confirmation of residence. If you are older than 16 years and don't receive social welfare or are a student you would have to pay a fee of 10,00 € for an annual card (so it's not completely free). But that card gives you access to thousands of books, so I find it a very good possibility if you don't have a lot of money to spend. Read more about the registration process HERE.

Besides being able to borrow books, they also offer free workspaces (with PC's), free WLAN, you can listen to music (CD's+headphones) for free and the Amerika Gedenkbibliothek wich is located at Blücherplatz 1 (U-Bahnhof Hallesches Tor on the U1 or U6) has a one-person-movie-theater. You can click HERE for more information (only in German though).

They also offer a lot of events like lectures and exhibitions which you can check out on their website's calender HERE.
